Junkchain Co

For my senior thesis project I chose to take an alternative approach by delving into textile design. I went into research and fabric creation with my small business Junkchain Co. Currently, I am designing a pop-up store for my brand and will continue to make small-scale woven textiles. My overall sustainable approach to design is very prominent in my thesis.
Before starting the project I had to identify a problem and research it. The problem I discovered is post-consumer textile waste. After clothing and fabric is out of use, many times it ends up polluting our country and others. All of the textiles I make are from clothing and fabric that is recycled or reclaimed from second-hand sources.
The first approach to my thesis was to explore creating a textile on a floor loom. This was a brand new learning experience for me, resulting in a large-scale textile that I turned into a floor pouf.
The second part of my thesis was participating in a yearly holiday sale where I sold products with my small business Junkchain Co. I sold fabric swatch pillows; swatches for interior uses typically get thrown away after use and by repurposing the swatches into pillows it reduces waste.

Zine I designed that went with each purchase of a pillow.
